A Poem Inspired

My friends have been writing about God
One gets divine communications via text message
One is still waiting for any sign at all
For me, it’s a Tap on the shoulder
A Whisper in my ear
The Still Small Voice

Nu? (She says with a tap tap tap)
Why are these days any different?
The world is a mess
I left you instructions
Go out and fix it!

And then the Whisper:
But don’t forget to notice the beauty
to name the blessings
to stop and breathe
and grieve
and smile at strangers and laugh
with children

Don’t forget to live

And then the Still Small Voice:
I am here.
I love you.

And when someone
sends me a text message
or a funny meme
to boost my morale
make me laugh
remind me I am loved –
That’s God too

And when it’s silent and dark
and I can’t find the answers
That’s God too

And when we write the words we need to hear
That’s God too

So if you’re waiting for a sign,
give me a call and I’ll send you a meme
and we’ll laugh and cry together

That’s God too
