And God called
God calls
Do we answer?
Are we Jonah - trying to run from it?
Are we Isaiah putting up our hand:
Hinenni - I am here
Listening
Ready
Sometimes God calls,
pointing the way and we’re excited
to go
to follow
to (ad)venture forth
We are eager
We go
willingly
And sometimes God calls
and it’s more like a command:
Go!
And we know we don’t have a choice
We can fight it, sure,
we can try
but deep down we know
that the winds of fate will sweep us up
and deliver us (in the belly of a fish, perhaps)
one way or another
So we might as well go
God calls
If you haven’t heard it
you haven’t opened your ears
You haven’t asked:
Where must my feet take me?
Where must my life take me?
You haven’t sat quietly and deepened
into your own heart
God calls
If you’re pretending you haven’t heard it
it will niggle at you
And then it will gnaw at you
And then it will thunder in you
until you can’t pretend anymore
It could take a day, or a
lifetime
God calls
Is calling
Will call
Has called and will
call again
And God called
And the rest followed
And the rest will be
But it begins here
With a call
